Frequently Asked Questions for Parents

We’re so excited that your child is getting to participate in the Penguin Patch Holiday Shop at their school! Penguin Patch loves providing inexpensive gifts at kid-friendly prices in a safe shopping environment.

We’re sure that you have some questions and we hope you’ll find the answers here. If you have any other questions or concerns, please give us a call at 1-888-577-2824. We’d love to talk with you!

Q: Do Penguin Patch employees run the holiday shop at my school?

A: No, the holiday shop is typically organized and hosted by the Parent Group along with other volunteers such as the Librarian, Teacher or Principal.

Q: Is the holiday shop a fundraiser for the school?

A: Often the answer is yes! The PTA or PTO can choose to run it as a Service Project or a Fundraiser.

Q: How do you price your items?

A:  Our gifts are priced just for kids! 80% of our items are under $5.00 and 60% are under $3. Gifts even start at 25 cents! The school or parent group then decides which mark-up they would like to apply depending on the school’s fundraising goals.

Q: How much money should I send with my child?

A: Our prices start at 25 cents with 60% of our items under $3 each. We suggest setting a budget per person to determine how much money to send. You can have your child earn money for the shop by doing chores to give them a sense of pride and ownership in their gifts.

Q:  Why was my child allowed to purchase items that weren’t listed on the budget envelope?

A: Sometimes kiddos choose some surprising gifts or can get sidetracked if they aren’t used to shopping on their own. The volunteers at your school run the shop and do their best to help the kids purchase gifts. Be sure to ask your child how they selected their gifts…their response is the best part!

Q: How can I get a replacement for a broken or lost gift?

A: We are always happy to ship out another gift to the school! Please call us at 1-888-577-2824 to discuss a replacement.

Q: What if my child does not bring home the correct change?

A: Please contact the parent group by calling your school. Also, be sure to ask your child what they had for lunch…you may notice they bought an extra snack that day!

Q: Who do I make the check out to?

A: Checks are typically made out to the school or the parent group. Checks should not be made out to an individual.
